This year will mark the 30th anniversary of the release of the iconic film, Jurassic Park. Director, Steven Spielberg, cemented his legacy as the filmmaker of a generation with the success of this franchise. It went on to gross $914 million with just the first film alone and has spawned multiple sequels, animated TV shows, amusement park attractions, video games and toys. Mattel will be honoring the anniversary of the original movie at San Diego Comic-Con 2023.

They will exhibit two Jurassic Park exclusive collectibles, including the first ever action figure of Steven Spielberg. The first is part of the ‘Jurassic Park: The Hammond Collection’ line. It will not only include the prolific director in toy form, but it will also contain a Dilophosaurus with a director’s chair and film camera. In addition, the box it comes in will be a replica of the clapperboard from the film. The special edition item will be sold at the Mattel Creations booth (#2945) with limited quantities being sold online for those that cannot attend the event on Friday, July 21.

The second exclusive Jurassic Park collectible is based on one of the most recognizable cars in cinematic history. The Jurassic Park jeep has been recreated in 1:64 scale in a new Hot Wheels set. It features a miniature version of Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) resting uncomfortably in the backseat. The vehicle contains diecast components and its boxed packaging is a recreation of the legendary sequence of Malcolm and the dino-loving cast barely escaping the pursuit of the T-Rex.

Both of these collectibles are expected to be highly in-demand at the Convention and online for Jurassic Park fans. However, hold onto your butts because Mattel has teased further releases to promote the 30th anniversary. PJ Lewis (Mattel’s VP of Action Figures) stated that there will be a number of glorious product releases that will deliver on fan-favorite characters and dinosaurs that will feature extreme attention-to-detail. Lewis showcased the release of their Brachiosaurus, which was the first clear and grown dinosaur the characters see in the film. It will be their largest figure created for ‘The Hammond Collection,’ that will stand at 27.36 inches (69.49 cm).

Mattel’s next initiative is to launch ‘The Hammond Collection: The Gates’ playset that will feature motorized park gates, a Jurassic Park Ford Explorer vehicle, with Tim, Lex, a goat and the classic T-Rex. While it is expected to see dinosaurs be made into toys, it is unique to see an actual person immortalized for one of their creations.
